An introduction and questions on Necromancy

Post by Khelric »

First and foremost, I'm happy to say that with this post, I make the transition from lurker to poster. I've seen the considerate and intelligent regulars around here and it's nice to see those who are willing to share with others for the greater good of the community. Too often I've seen horders of knowledge unwilling to share or those who are more interested in pretending they know things in order to impress others.

I've been an armchair occultist for a little over ten years and I've yet to delve into pratice because I've wanted to see where my personal tastes and talents lead me in my magical studies. It wasn't until I read a book on Enochian Magic by Lon Milo Duquette (not to shamelessly plug an author) that I realized I was trying too hard to find the right shaped hole for my peg instead of focusing on the larger picture. It was his nonchalant, yet informative writing style that was clear and free of the trappings of arrogance or pretentious text that really rang true with me. Despite not being particularly enthralled by John Dee or his seer's work, I took more from that book than I'd expected when I cracked it open. You can either be a scholar or a practitioner, but in order to be the latter you have to take action based upon your knowledge. Practice tempered by wisdom in a nutshell. Seems practical, but it was profound to me at the time.

Since that revelation, I've done a bit of soul searching and realized both my natural talents and interests are in Necromancy. When I first began study on it, I got the visual in my head that most seem to, of the creepy old man surrounded by bones and sigils in some medieval dungeon. I thought it was an entirely cool persona, but dismissed the particular art as just that. As I matured and my understanding of magic increased through continued study, I came to see spirit work differently and that it was really something I wanted to delve in to.

Long story short, I'm looking for advice on how to persue Necromancy despite some road bumps. The highest among them are that I share an apartment with a roommates (one of which is a kind and intelligent person, but is sometimes judgemental based upon his Christian lifestyle) who would not receive this kind of study or practice well. I'm not looking to rock the boat or offend anyone's way of life. Maybe it's unfair for some to live how they want while some must work in secret, but this is the society in which we live and the majority often rules. I hold no qualms, but if anyone has advice or knowledge on how I could persue this art covertly, I would greatly appreciate it.

In addition, from what meager information I've been able to dig up, it seems a lot of the necessary components of the art are either illegal or very difficult to obtain. I'd prefer not to break any laws. Again, if anyone has advice or knowledge on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my book here and sorry it was so long!

I look forward to hearing your responses and getting to know the community better.

Hello and welcome to the forum. [grin]

I am not very knowledgeable on the Necromantic arts, outside of what lies naturally within my own practices,I 'm afraid.
I have been a bit out of touch with the Greater Occult world for a while myself.I 've been consigned to the armchair too,for quite a time, mostly through family issues.

I am hoping to catch up,but I have a lot of catching up to do.

It is indeed unfair that some can be living as they wish while others must hide their actions, that is very true.I am open about mine, but I don't have to share with others who would dissaprove, that makes things more difficult,I agree and sympathise on that.

I hope you find what you seek here and once again, welcome.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Nahemah.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had family issues and hope things are going well for you all. I've been down that road before and sometimes between family, jobs and our own personal issues, we lose focus of the great work. However, I'm glad that you have decided to hop up on that horse once more and get your stride back. The armchair isn't always such a bad place to rest. Accumulation of knowledge can never be seen as a wasteful venture.

You mention some innate necromancy within your own particular practice. If it's not too personal, would you care to elaborate? Truly, evocation of any kind is of great interest to me, but particularly spirit work. If you have any anecdotes to toss in, I would be more than pleased to listen to them.

Khelric, I too have been searching for really anything on Necromantic Rituals and such because it feels like a calling. From the few ive come across, they involve being in a cemetary, at night. Also involves digging up a corpse to raise it, then "giving it eternal rest" b either stabbing a stake in the head, or eating flesh or burning the body. Of course there are always details being left out and because avid Necromancers probably live in isolation, you won't find a decent work conventionally, atleast if u do, they are probably in jail. I am thinking summoning a spirit to guide me to the nearest location of an operating Necromantic labratory might be helpful, but I can't commune with the dead. The only Spirit that I know that communicates to me on a semifrequent basis is in my dreams and specifics are left out due to lack of words. But since you have more experience w/ practice and such, I think it might be worth a try.

And my experience in Magik is essentially zilch. But ive been receiving visions of my future, usually through my eyes, in my dreams since I was 12 or 13 (so about 6 years) . And I predicted my mother would get in a fatal car crash once(that was a very disturbing episode that i;d like some1 to help me to explaine), a week later I told her about it and she said I was crazy, as I thought she would. The next day her car had a problem and didnt want to start. Though the initial diagnosis was minor, there was a sever underlying problem making the car prone to shut down mid gear (as in driving). So That is my thoughts on how to further your necromantic learning, but If you arnt willing to live alone, and be pale and bony (apparently dealing with death energy has negetive effects leading to paling of skin, loss of body mass and losing of the hair) and do immoral things (only way to reverse the negetive affects to your body is to leech the life force err life energy versus the death err transition energy from some1 else) than regular divination might be preferable.

I have written two books on Necromantic practice. It's not medieval nonsense. I was trained in Palo Mayombe. Check out my books or pop me an email.
