What rituals should the beginner start with?

Post by barnacle »

I read about the middle pillar ritual and am interested because for years now, I've had a problem with drowsiness so any potential method of gaining energy, I'm all for. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to magick, my fathers an occultist and showed me the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram once but besides that, its all new to me. I notice all these rituals start with the Qabalistic Cross. Should I learn that first? What effect does performing the qabalistic cross by itself have? In order to become familiar with it, I've been practicing it but I don't really know what its function is. Anyhow, after learning the QC, I'm thinking I should learn the LBRP and the middle pillar ritual. Any suggestions on what else I should learn to get me started? While, I'd never play around with evocations/invocations or anything like that unless I was 100% sure I knew exactly what I was doing, I'd like to become knowledgable/skilled enough to be able to safely do things like that so I also want to learn things that will start to give me the skills necessary to safely deal with things like that.

Do the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram in its Banishing form daily for a couple of months to familiarize yourself with it. Then, you can do the Invoking form too. You mentioned the Middle Pillar Exercise, which is a very good practice indeed. At this time, I do the LIRP, followed by the Middle Pillar, and I close with the LBRP.

Instead of answering your question about the effects of QC, I'll advice you to search on the internet, not only about the QC, but about the entirety of the LRP. Google it, and you'll find dozens of different articles and analysis on the ritual. This is how I began to understand the ritual some time ago. After reading enough information, you'll see that most people share similar views on the subject. Also, the practise itself will give you answers with time.

That's it about the rituals. I suppose you could add the Hexagram Ritual afterwards, but only after much time practicing the Pentagram one.

If there's still any specific doubts, just ask. [thumbup]

I like to perform some kind of light meditation to calm myself before daily ritual practice.
http://www.magick4life.com/ all about Magick, Aleister Crowley, Wicca, Thelema, Necronomicon, Tarot and much more.

Meditation is good too. But Barnacle has already shown interest in meditation with another topic, so I felt no need to address it.
