A year after writting the above I visited a lodge, and expressed and interest to join.
I am a Mason, and while much of what I have shared above remains true in my mind and opinion, some of the rituals outlines above are based on how they are conducted in the USA, and from country to country and even lodge to lodge the rituals differ.
Reading of them doesn't do them justice, to understand Masonry I suggest you live it and join or at least enquire and form your own understanding and conduct your own research.
I have found that each Mason I have spoke to has their own very different idea of what the craft holds.
I can say that Masonry has helped shaped me and made me a better man and person all round, and thats not in a religious brain washing way either, those that state that Masonry is a perversion of faith or religon are way off the mark. There are books of faith presented to a Mason, and those books will be of the intiates own faith, should you have no faith per say then normally a Bible will be placed, however its Masonic in origin, and often covered with hands and tools of the craft in a dim room.
You've developed quite a collection of information. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I understand the Freemasons to be a group of people who help each other reach spiritual self-actualization. Knowing that, it hurts me deeply to hear that they think that women shouldn't have access to those secrets of enlightenment. I'm curious to know how they handle transsexuals and people who identify as neither male or female.
If you search online for Transexuals and how they are regarded you will find mixed answers, it all depends on the lodge and the master lodge it resdies and circumstance from what I can gather.
Here is a video I create just prior to joining the Masons.
I was at the Masons for 2 year and during that time under went the three degree's that make me a Master Mason, and I learnt of each of the tracing boards and their meanings and I can say that most of my interpritations in the video are correct.
