Best books to start with Enochian

Post by Infernalshadows »

Hello all,
I am relatively new to Enochian style teachings. I honestly have no idea even where to start!
Could you please give me some books to read?
a few beginner, some intermediate and a few advanced? I just don't want to be a beginner and have no where else to go to after I am finished with the basics.

Thanks!!

Hey there,

I think you should start obviously if you haven't read it already by the apocryphal "Book of Enoch", it's considered to be the work of Enoch himself and it's the best way to start it all i believe.

Then you have Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley who wrote a few works which are widely considered the beggining of Enochian magick system as we know it but they never considered it to be Enochian magick but "angelical magick" as they say it was during conversations with such entities that the system was given to them.

With their works in mind authors like Aleister Crowley, Mathers, Israel Regardie etc wrote their own books about the system (this system was widely incorporated into the Golden Dawn of that time) adding to it their own perspective and magickal knowledge and twist.

I have to tell you the system is rather complex in itself, or atleast it does look more complex than it is, and even tho i recommend the works of all the above occultist as relevant works for your study i will look to find more introductory books so you can have a good and natural progress thro the whole process. It's not very appealing to start something and be presented with alot of geometrical figures and tables with numbers and letters and odd names.

Keep in mind that the manuscripts that were found of John Dee weren't complete and it's much about the system itself and not that much in how to use it. Therefore there are alot of theories out there and different interpretations of the system and how to make it work.

I think you should start with the book of Enoch, it's more of a "tale" and the only relation tbh with enochian magick it's the name since it doesn't talk about any magickal system, but it's a must read imo for any occultist. I don't know if i can post links here for free books but it's relatively easy to find it around, if you want you can start with Dee and Kelley but i will see if i find some books which explain the system in a more extensive way.

Will post later.

So i was waiting for you to reply so i could recommend a few books to start off, but since you didn't i'm gonna recommend them anyway if you come by you can check them. I'm not able to connect to the site from home, dunno why (maybe someone can help me with this?) so i'm time limited.

Anyways here we go with some books, most can be found pretty easily in the form of pdf quite easily :

Enochian magick vision - Don Milo Duquette (i recommend you start with this, it's a good book imo)

Enochian magic for begginers - Donald Tyson

The Complete Enochian Dictionary: A Dictionary of the Angelic Language As Revealed to Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley - Donald C. Laycock

The Enochian Evocation of Dr. John Dee - Geoffrey James

And i think it's enough to keep you entertained for a while!

Ok nahemah will do, it's kinda weird it just keeps trying to connect and nothing happens and here i don't have that problem. I thought it was because of my pc (some configuration, firewall, cookies or something) but i tried on my laptop too at home aswell and i have the same problem. Probably something related to the ip dunno.

I'll pm vashta about it then, see if he's able to help me resolve it, thanks!

In your own words, what exactly do you understand Enochian magick to be?

Hey! Thanks for the recommendations! Sorry, I've been away in Germany for school. I haven't really thought about coming back and checking on this site for a little bit.

I have actually read a few of these books actually. I just wanted to see what else I could really start reading. I am probably going to reread some of these though, because you can't actually get all of the information that you need in 1 or 2 readings. :) Thanks again!
