So, what kind of paper do you use for sigils?
Ive used plain writing pads and cigarretes. Any ideas out there? toilet roll perhaps? [yay]

Re: what paper do you use for sigils?
The paper does not matter. What matters is the sigil (symbol) and the understanding of what the sigil (symbol) means so that your mental energy can go into it to influence.

This is, of course, incorrect. I received word from one of the Barbary Wizards recently about a commercial he saw online that was originally on cable. This wizard was one of the most powerful of that period. He terrified poor little Anton. He was a pioneer in sigil art. Way back in the early seventies he was striking them over the Bay Area onto fog banks with ridiculously expensive lasers. It was not all that effective, but fun to attempt. He was rather excited with this commercial depicting a young man on bicycle riding the hills of San Francisco sketching out a heart with GPS for his girl watching on her cell phone in a bistro.arpee wrote:The paper does not matter. Nothing mimicked is anything at all. The height one's imagination takes anything will be the measure of its success.
Re: what paper do you use for sigils?
Austin Osman Spare proved by writing a sigil on the back of an envelope, that the paper on which you write a sigil doesnt matter. It is the the sigil itself that holds power. However i suppose if youre choosing that you believe that the paper on which you write has an effect then I suppose for you it does

Re: what paper do you use for sigils?
My goodness... an expert on Spare who doesn't get it. Hmm.... I suggest using lasers on fog banks and a bicycle with GPS and that computes in your mind as paper? Spare NEVER proved anything nor did he attempt to. Like Dali he was an artist. He EXPRESSED. This is the nature of those of our ilk. We don't give a damn what is proven. We go with what works and know well the difference between what does and does not by the results.Mahiril wrote:Austin Osman Spare proved by writing a sigil on the back of an envelope, that the paper on which you write a sigil doesnt matter. so you dont judge what works by results? then how do you know whats valid?

Do see here where you have a problem? I post: "We go with what works and know well the difference between what does and does not by the results." And then you respond blind to the obvious? What gives? Spare well knew, as the very few of us who have mastered his methods, a result is not a proof. What works matters but there can be no proof of color to the colorblind. We of that way recognize only that a true Majian is upright and successful in life... in need of nothing and master of all things without exception. We cannot know a practitioners personal method but certainly can know the result... success.

In agreeing you disagree with Spare. There is no proof in personal methods. And, yes, as any good artist worth that label can tell you, the medium is very often the better part of the message. If one is a mechanic it is best to use that terminology to make your point. I am an artist who well knows the medium IS very often the message. It is important to understand moreover beyond those pretending in these pursuits it has been said, "the old ways are abrogate!" That is most certainly true. One cannot equate sigil today with what they were in more barbarous times any more than one can express the more subtle concepts of MAJIK in cuneiform. In this Spare did agree. So did Crowley. So do they all who are or were accomplished at all.Nahemah wrote:The paper does not matter. Well if the use of a certain medium helps you garner your "belief" enough to help you charge the sigil better, then yes it is important what you write it on.
If you don't mind using something like toilet paper, and you can believe it will still work regardless of how you craft the sigil, it may not be as important to you.
Like Zard mentioned with the GPS symbol, one could prepare a sigil that way if it still allowed their mind to believe in the power of said sigil.
I generally write mine in a notebook or on sticky notes, but that is just because I don't have fancier paper or other materials lying around with easy access. [tongue]

Re: what paper do you use for sigils?
I remember someone somewhere online who had a recipe for 'charged chalk' which they made themselves and used to draw sigils with.
The medium is as others say,as important as you want it to be.
You could also make your own paper for sigilisation purposes?
