So back when I started out on my pagan path, about the first thing I learned was how to channel. It started with elements, and given mom gave me plenty of science, I knew quite a bit about the physical side, so it was easy grabbing it in a more spiritual form. Too bad I have always been better on drawing it in then I am at dumping it back out.
Tarot came next, but since I was self taught with nothing but the deck booklet to work with, I just figured the way to do it was to loop someones energy through the deck. I didn't really understand that it was what I was doing because it came so naturally. It took realizing I could feel some people's energy and identify who without seeing them to get it. On the bright side, since I had someplace to aim the flow, I didn't hold it.
Well, now I think I may have spilled into automatic writing. It sounds kind of neat when other people talk about it. It's less so on my end of it. I get words and emotions that are not me demanding to be recorded, and it may not be so bad all by itself. Unfortunately along with it comes a mass of left over energy that I have no place to aim right away. Mind you, I wasn't looking to do it in the first place, I just kind of get grabbed as an outlet.
Being asked first would be nice.
And it doesn't seem any more sinister than, say, lightning, but it is really overwhelming.
As much as I would like to respect some spirit or god deciding to pay attention to little old me, this is not what I signed up for.
So how do I shut this off?

Explore meditation or even yoga. It has helped many with what I think you describe. There is no off switch. You have to begin to train your mind and spirit to deal with it.

Or ignore it all and pretend it's not there until it sorta goes away.
Then you'll be left feeling all empty inside like something is missing - cuz it is.

And once again, it comes back to yoga. I had just mentioned to a friend that I needed to pick it back up due to sewing slouch.
How exactly does it help with this? The videos I see are very focused on the physical side and stretching, so I don't see them as far removed from pilates. How does this actually translate to a spiritual/meditation practice rather than just movements?
And ignoring it was not really ever an potion.
