Snake Dream

Post by MelanieLHG »

Hello

I had a really vivid snake dream and I am unable to figure it out, I am wondering if anyone has any ideas about it..

The dream began whilst I was out walking, I spotted a snake (which I have since discovered was a Cobra) and I felt really excited at such a rare sighting. The snake was not moving and appeared to be asleep, I got really close to it, it suddenly shot up towards my face, the last thing I remember seeing were its fangs, I woke up in shock before it bit me.

I went back to sleep, I was sat at a dinner table and on my plate was a section of the snake, I am a vegetarian and I did not want to eat it, as I looked closer there was no meat on the snake, I realised that it was just some of it's skin. I was not keen on the idea of eating it but I had some feeling that I had to eat it. I ate the bit of skin and woke up.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

M

Sounds like a big transformation that you have been resisting. Something that you've been avoiding or unaware of which you must now go through.

Just expanding on this, as ScorpioMoon is right about an aspect of the symbolism in regards to modern neo-shamanism. Snakes can also represent the following.

Firstly, as a totem:
1. Snake totems are thought to have healing properties (this is carried on from the Greeks)
2. A snake totem can help you transition through a difficult period in your life; either physical, spiritual, or emotional
3. The totemic energy is believed to be primal and unconscious by nature

In dreams:
Dreams of snakes tend to herald a period of change. They often appear when you're trying to make headway into completely unknown territory. Being close to the ground themselves, they can act as a method for grounding yourself. Visitations from snakes in dreams tend to be scary because they are seen as a dangerous reptile in the waking world.

Dreaming of being bitten by a snake can mean that you need to be conscious of important things that are happening in your life that you're either not aware of, or are ignoring. If the snake is poisonous, then it is saying that the thing you are missing will harm you if you don't deal with it.

Just because your penis looks like a python doesn't mean that the snake is symbolic of it, Desecrated. [grin]

Thank you for the replies. It was helpful to hear your thoughts about what a snake bite could mean. However I am still wondering what the significance of the eating of the snake skin has. Any ideas?

Thanks

To you, personally what does the snake skin represent? Put aside eating it, just think of what words come to mind when you think of snake skin, then from there think about the symbolism of eating it.
To me this sounds like you once had a very real fear that you overcame simply by seeing that the fear was unfounded, there was nothing to it but a hollow threat to your mind, the eating of it shows you overcame it.
The bite is the fear. It was snake to symbolize healing, the hollow shell to show your fears were unfounded or overcame, and the eating to symbolize dominance of the situation.
The truth of the situation is best found for yourself rather than have others look at it for you, guides are helpful but truth can only be found by knowing yourself.

Snake symbolism is universal and intensely complicated. As others mentioned, transformation and healing are common themes. I wanted to add serpents are also symbolic of fertility and ancient divinity in some traditions, particularly inducing gnosis in women. If you're dreaming of biting and being bitten by a venomous snake this could potentially symbolize initiation. The beginning of my spiritual path was an inner transformation triggered by powerful dreams and visions of serpents. Either way I would pay attention to this dream and perhaps, in the moments before you fall asleep, ask the snakes appearing in your dreams to make their intentions clearer.

This is very helpful, thank you!

A few months ago I had a crazy vision.
It was a shamanic "trance" (a very painful one - I thought I'm going to die).
I saw crazy pictures (magical circles, sigils, a lot of occult symbols), but there was one thing I absolutely remember... it was a clear vision: a black snake with golden stripes.
It looked like a statue (if it wasn't a living thing), yet it moved... on a wall or on the floor, I don't really know.

The symbol of the snake appeared many times in my life.
In fact, my very nature is a snake's.

But I've never had a shamanic trance before...
And this vision of a snake... it was really intense.

After the events I looked up this snake on the internet and found out that most of the black and yellow snakes are cannibals!
Weird, huh?
Especially if you know that I practiced psy- or psi-vampirism a year ago...

But I think that snake is simply my "totem" and that's all. :D
