Choosing my best books available for my level

Post by DarkSchneider »

So I'm going to make a list, of the books I have acquired recently, based on what I think my level of skill is. I'm honestly a beginner, and I've jumped ahead of the basics just to try to get somewhere, without considering the risks. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions of the books I'm going to list or what else I can purchase. Preferably used books or something affordable on amazon. I consider myself a solitary practitioner of eclectic magick.

This is what I've acquired recently:

Teen Witch
To Stir a Magick Cauldron
To Light a Sacred Flame (All by Silver Ravenwolf)

The Complete Book of Magic and Witchcraft (revised edition) by Kathryn Paulsen

Protection and Reversal Magick: A witch's Defense Manual by Jason Miller (Inominandum)

A Spell a Day by Cassandra Eason

The Alex Sanders Lectures (with an introduction by J.W Baker)

The Witch's Bag of Tricks by Melanie Marquis

The Witch's Almanac Issue 26 (Spring 2007-Spring 2008)
The Witch's Almanac Issue 27 (Spring 2008-Spring 2009)

Llewelllyn's 2013:
Magical Almanac
Sabbats Almanac

Moon Spells by Diane Ahlquist

Celebrate the Earth: A Year of Holiday in the Pagan Tradition by Laurie Cabot with Jean Mills

Talisman Magic by Richard Webster

Remember that these are books I simply acquired and I'm not necessarily a Wiccan despite many of the books relating to Wicca :P I have no specific path presently. Thanks in advance :)

Anything by Janet and Stewart Farrar, but particularly:

The Witches God

The Witches Goddess

Joseph Campbell, particularly:

The Hero's Journey

The Hero with a Thousand Faces

Jan Fries:

Visual Magick

Nightshades

...And so on from there.

I'm currently working out of Planetary Magick by Melita Denning and Osborne Phillips. It's a pretty straightforward book that is both practical guidebook and introductory theoretical text, and it presents a complete, workable system of magick. If that area is something that interests you, I highly recommend it.

I liked the Witches Bible by the Farrar's. It's two of their books combined into one. I just don't remember which ones.

Ray Bucklands big blue book is an excellent primer in magic if you can get past the dogma.

@RoseRed

I actually passed up on a chance to get the Witches Bible, so my friend could buy it instead. She was very happy and I'd rather her have it at the time. Perhaps I can borrow it when she's not using it.

I think I can steer clear of the dogma and acquire that book :) I'll do what it takes.

I would recommend a good book on Sigil Magick because it is so beginner friendly and practical. Try adding Practical Sigil Magick by Frater U.D.
