Sick Feeling while Meditating?

Post by findingtruth »

Hi guys,

So it's been quite a while since I meditated last but I'm trying to get my shit together. This morning was the first time I did again and I was using Shinichi's Fundamental Development. So I sat down in my posture and as soon as I closed my eyes I started to feel sick and I hadn't been up until that moment. Since this is only my first day, it could just be a fluke but I'd like to get some suggestions now that way if it does happen again I can evaluate it a bit better.

For me to offer any ideas, I'd need a better description of everything about the situation.

What does that pain feel like, and where in your body do you feel it?
What mediation posture are you using? Is your body properly aligned?
Are you combining it with any visualizations, or just trying to clear your mind?
What did you ingest in the hours leading up to meditation?

There are honestly a decent number of causes that come to mind for this. I've personally experienced a couple of them myself.
I had what I believe to be an entity living off of me and making me sick while I meditated, and marijuana always has an effect on my head when I try to meditate. It really is a broad spectrum.

It is like nausea in my stomach as if I were about to throw up.
I was starting off small with a simple cross legged pose. I believe I was aligned right, spine straight, neck and head up and straight.
No, no visualizations. I was more observing my body, the mild discomforts and relaxing them away as Shinichi's post says to do.
I did these meditations as soon as I had woken up, I was on an empty stomach.

Yes,there is a wide range of things it could be, unfortunately. I feel fairly inclined it was just my energies kind of going "what the fuck" after being so dormant.

Judging from your practice, at the very least, it's nothing to be worried about.
It could be as simple as an upset stomach, or something as complex as your energy freaking out.

If it persists after more than a couple attempts, contact Shinichi personally, as he is the only one I know with the proven experience to be able to help. Even more so that you're following his reading material.

EDIT: I know I wasn't a lot of thorough help here, but I understand the need to get answers quick, and I felt this is what that was. I don't want you to be set off your practice over a potential worry while waiting for a forum answer (trust me, I've been there.)
Hopefully, at the least, this is enough to get you back to what you were doing with less worries in your mind. If you're starting Shin's practices out from the beginning (which you should be) I can assure you that there will probably be a short-to-moderate period of time where almost everything is utterly unpleasant to you in almost every way. This is part of the cleansing. I faced it pretty heavily with Bardon's system (which Shin's reminds me of, quite much so), and I still face certain aspects of it every day as well.
It will pass, as everything does, and then you body will stop freaking out over stuff it already does. Or rather, your brain will stop freaking out about it.

Thanks :) I appreciate the input and the feeling has subsided. I'm working my way through Bardon's book but I wanted to start some sort of foundation in the process.

I'd say your empty stomach had something to do with it, if you're prone to hunger nausea, and maybe the way you sit in the posture or breathe too. Try to relax into it, and maybe try some tea before you sit down with an empty stomach. Mint is good in the mornings. If it does persist, go see your doctor, and maybe a good acupuncturist if he can't help. There may be something inside that gets pressured only when you sit that way, when you're more aware of it.

Wait till you get to the bigger cleansings later on. [lol] It gets much easier when you get to a certain point, though. At least mentally, where it's no longer a big deal and you can stay centered and in control most of the time.

You can use them to supplement each other, I've been told. The "Mental Discipline" exercise especially is little more than Step One Mental training, adjusted and organized a little differently. The Awareness training will help you greatly when it comes to things like Accumulation and Transference of Consciousness, and my Psychic Breathing is just a slightly modified version of Conscious Breathing. Work with what works for you. Bardon's textbook isn't meant to be untouchable scripture.

Were you by any chance wearing pants with a belt? "Tight pants syndrome" is the nickname given to a series of complaints men get from wearing pants with a belt which is too tight, and can include nausea. It typically occurs when a person sits, bending their belly over their belt and compressing their abdomen.

If it only happened once, ignore it.
If it happens again, then we need to start doing a fail search.

This is because of an energy block.

It's normal when your power is increasing for your body to react aversely as a tremendous change is happening internally as you increase your concentration and begin consciously directing your flow of energy.

You don't need to even try to get rid of the energy block, by simply using methods of non-resistance, it will eventually unblock.
