Re: Neuroscience and the Subconscious

Sorry to be pedantic, but neuroscience is the study of the nervous system, ie neurones (nerve cells), neurotransmitters, synapses, glial cells etc. Discussions regarding the subconscious are the province of psychology . The guys I knew who worked in the neuroscience lab next door to our lab would h...

Neuroscience and the Subconscious

So neuroscience has confirmed that our subconscious generates our reality. While this is something that Freud theorized, and chaos magicians use to do magick, I think it's fantastic that neuroscience is catching up. The first episode of a six part special on the subject is appearing on PBS tonight. ...

Re: Which order should I apply for?

I'm not familiar with any orders that practice planetary magick specifically (I think Golden Dawn uses it some but I'm not positive). I don't know that I can really tell you any more than is available on the web. I know it's maddening to sift through so many horrible, poorly maintained websites but ...

Re: Chaos and Tarot?

It's sort of a "I reserve the right to change my mind" attitude. That's pretty much the definition of chaos magick. Which is why I figured it would be a good place to start. It seems like an approach to magick that is perfect for the way I learn. Try this, try that, see what works. I hate...

Re: Chaos and Tarot?

But that's just my personal perspective. I'm no expert by any means. I enjoyed reading your post and in many parts I agree with the view you have to tarot. Just for saying something else, I will quote this last sentence of your post by saying to it, that too often magicians seem to attach this &quo...

Re: Chaos and Tarot?

I am beginning to work with Chaos magick and from what I've read there is a generally negative disposition toward divination in general amongst Chaos magicians, but they seem to be dismissive primarily of "divining the future". I see divination differently. I see it less as trying to figur...

Re: Which order should I apply for?

There has been a lot of this question going around lately and just about as many answers for it as there are people. There are people here from many traditions and different geographic locations. In general, more information is helpful when asking a question like this as different orders have differ...

Re: High and Low Magick-- Is one better than the other?

The general sentiment I have seen, and tend to share, is that it's all great, and you should just the magick that you resonate with the most. Right now I am starting off by studying the general principles of chaos and ceremonial magick, but I also feel a desire to, at some point, study celtic lore a...

Re: Is belief absolutely necessary to make magick work?

I've recently started on the chaos path (very recently) and one of the core tenants is to do what works for you. If you really feel that African magick and so called low magic resonate with and work for you, then do those things. I hate the term "low magick" because it seems to imply some ...

Re: which organization to join?

I've been questioning this too recently, though given my experience, focus and willpower, I would say it's not best for me to join any official group yet. I know I'm a bus ride away from seeing a Golden Dawn organization but I am hesitant and was warned they could be a fraud. I have their website b...

Re: An intro to Chaos Magick (cartoon version)

In the last three weeks I've read half a dozen books, listened to countless podcasts, and a lot of that was before deciding on working in Chaos Magick. Out of everything I've read so far this is the single most helpful text I've come across. Absolutely brilliant.

Re: which organization to join?

More information might be helpful. Which orders have lodges close to you? Why do you want to join an order? Do you want the structure? You already have the fraternity of the Masons so it seems you are looking for more than brotherhood and charity work which seem to be at least the primary public con...

Beginner's Book to Begin Developing Psychic Intuition

Hey all. I'm currently working on developing my abilities in meditation with the eventual goal of being able to enter a magical trance. Since this seems to be the most foundational ability when it comes to casting spells and such, I'm not too interested in casting spells or summoning entities etc. B...

Re: Different Myths different gods or same gods ?

I think it might be a mistake to impose our limited human concepts as mortal beings upon immortal (or effectively immortal) gods. To think that gods exist in a way that is similar to how humans exist, wrapped up in small boxes of identity probably leads to a lot of confusion. Major gods must be very...

Re: What do you think about Tarot apps and such things ?

Stukov, that was a great reading. It makes me think that maybe my attitude toward Tarot apps extends more from my young relationship with the cards than from any inherent fault in the apps themselves. Or maybe the one I used wasn't that good and I mistakenly passed judgment on tarot apps in general.

Thread Necromancy: Policy and Practice

Hey so I had a quick question. Is there a forum policy or practice regarding posting in old threads? I've been around a few days and a couple of times now I've responded in a thread that was a bit on the old side. I don't notice any specific policy on it but I know in some forums thread necro is avo...

1. They are Holy - meaning without sin, pleasing to God, 100% obedient to Almighty God - Unable, not going to sin, their choice is fixed, they serve Him alone and no other. Are you sure about the part "being without sin"? 36 Then the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred a...

Hello BrokenSeeker. Our stories are very similar , though I am glad I ended up here in my twenties. And let me suggest you a book that you might like. It is called "The New Golden Dawn Ritual Tarot - Keys to the Rituals, Symbolism, Magic and Divination" by Chic Cicero and Sandra Tabatha C...

Re: What do you think about Tarot apps and such things ?

I've never been able to feel a connection to the cards drawn on tarot apps. I like to have them directly in front of me but that's just a personal preference. My advice would be, if you have a deck. Get a spread from the app, get everything you can out of it. Then duplicate the spread from your deck...

Re: Doubts about Tarot?

I'm a neophyte tarot reader but I have some idea of the combined meaning of your two readings. First, while you never shared what your specific question for the reading was, it seems to me your question was along the line if "is tarot really any good for divination?" It sounds like the dar...
