My biggest problem with the Joy of Satan enigma is just how unprofessional and poorly written the presentation is. If you intend on influencing the paths that people will take, at least respect these people enough to package the information in a form that can be taken seriously. The site looks as though it was built using the free Geocities site builder that we all took a crack at so many years ago.

I fully support (morally, at least) the creation and presentation of new ideas. But if the creator of this idea doesn't have a proper command of English language and grammar, then the best route to take would be to recruit somebody who is competent in such an area. Until the presentation is perfected, many people just cannot take the housed ideas very seriously, and it's just another fly-by-night attempt at creating a religion.

I won't knock the concept of Aryanism within Satanism. LaVey saw the psychological importance of Nazi imagery, recognizing the compatibility of these contrarian ideas and imagery. It's all a matter of debate as to whether or not the philosophies themselves could be compatible. There is no absolute black or white in that regard; to say that there is is unreasonable. Either you like it or you don't...there is nothing more to it.

Speaking of the nature of the JoS organization, I'll point out that it is based in Tulsa, which is likely one of the most evangelical cities in the US. It's the home of Oral Roberts and his evangelical university, so it seems very appropriate that a Satanic group like this should spring from Tulsa. Absolute, extreme devotion as demonstrated by the JoS writings is a perfect mirror image of the religious environment in that area. This isn't really relevant to the subject at hand...just a side note.

That 7000 people in one group is indicative of the lowest common denominator. If the JOS were able to present intelligent (or original) ideas or professionally package them - then their group numbers would correspondingly be much smaller. The more intelligent the audience - the more likely it is that the audience will leave

The methods will lead to altered states experiences. Since the people engaiging in these practices tend to be poorly educated and lacking experience in the field of perception mutilation, they're likely to take these states as validating the entire approach of the group. This is not uncommon as most people, having had altered states experiences, will look for some kind of validating framework for the experience to help understand it.

In most Initiatory cultures you find this complementary relationship between intellecual framework and altered states, with one helping to expand the framework of the other.

In the contra-initiatory system of something like Joy of Satan you find an inversion of this relationship, with both experiences negating the benefits of the other, narrowing down the options of the individual using them until they're simply another cog in the authoritarian system of the group's operators.

first of all what do you mean by altered states experience?

the paragraph is the one i am most confused about, what do you mean by them taking these states as validating the approach of the group? and what has it got to do with education?

if im on the right track you are saying the meditation techniques used give you a feeling of being in a different 'state', and being uneducated they will see this as a proof of the effectiveness on the groups system.

As I am a fairly new member of OF, and I love this forum because there is so much good stuff in it, this is one thread that I feel I must comment on because I detest the JoS and everything they stand for. She is SCUM and loads of people are walking away from that site, and what I do is read up on the proper sources if I want to know about Chakras, medidation, astrology and so on.
