I see necromancy as getting in touch with dead philosophers / philosophies. When you read and practice Crowley it's the modern equivalent of "necromancy" to me. It's more potent if you use the philosophy as part of your own, kind of reanimating a dead system and breathing new life into it.

Eh, if you view the devil in a positive, liberating way you should be fine doing such a ritual. Usually in that case you would say "Satan" though... If you're coming at this from a Christian mindset I would definitely suggest against it, that stuff gets very deeply ingrained.

My tip is to use it as a stepping stone and move on. Especially today, LaVeyan Satanism is in utter ruins.
